It's Dollup Doll, Lauren here. Today, I want to talk to you about something very near and very dear to my heart- BROWS!
As you all know, beautiful brows are all the rage right now. Thank the heavens that gone are the days of stick thin, over-plucked, over-waxed brows. Thin eyebrows weigh down the face, throw your facial structure off balance and tend to age your over-all appearance.
Thicker brows add fullness to the face, creating a more youthful look. Girl, if you were blessed with a bushy brow- OWN IT!
Now if you're up with the latest hollywood beauty hacks and tricks then you may be hearing a certain little word floating around.. THREADING. If you're anything like me, you may be asking yourself some questions right about now. What is it? How does it work? Is it expensive? Does it hurt? Well I've done my research and I'm here to give you the 411 on brow threading and how you can achieve a flawless, red carpet brow!
Now before I continue.. I should begin by letting you know that I know a thing or two about B.R.O.W.S. I am an Italian/American and I know a little something something about thick hairy brows. As a little girl, I grew to hate my unwanted facial hair. I felt like my thick unibrow was screaming out loud to every stranger I met and quickly began to feel like my countless straggling brow hairs were overpowering my beauty. So I began the investigation of the world that is brow maintenance!
I began tweezing at the age of 8- OUCH! Tweezing just wasn't cutting it for me. For the amount of stray brow hairs I had, the time and pain just were not worth it! Not to mention the choppy, straggly results.
Next at age 12, I began discovering the beauty of waxing. I started getting my brows waxed and was much happier with the results. Although waxing was also painful, I felt the pain was much more rewarding than the repetitive, daunting pain of tweezing. I enjoyed the final results from waxing however, I still noticed that my brows were not looking like the stars on the red carpet. One day the stylist would give me a thin brow and the next a thick one. The results were never consistent. I desired that crisp, clean, symmetric brow look that all the stars were flashing around.
Then at the age of 18... I discovered.. T H R E A D I N G!
What is it?
Threading is an ancient way to remove hair that sprung from Egypt and India. The art of threading is a beauty practice or treatment where a brow stylist takes a thin piece of cotton or polyester thread, swipes and rolls the thread across the face and removes any unwanted facial hair. Threading is known to be more gentle on the skin in comparison to waxing. Also, threading makes it easier to get more precise when shaping the brow.
How does it work?
Threading works by doubling the thread, twisting it around the stylists hands and then it is rolled across the face over areas of unwanted hair. When the thread goes over the unwanted hair, it plucks out the hair at the follicle level. Unlike plucking, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short rows of hair at once.
The thread is pulled along unwanted hair in a twisting motion, trapping hair in what can be described as a mini lasso, and uplifts it right out of the follicle. Because it removes hair from the follicle, it can last up to six weeks.
Which stars are doing this?
The results from threading are hard to miss! It's easy to see which celebrities are using brow threading techniques as opposed to tweezing or waxing because of the contrast of the crisp, clean precision and shaping. Stars such as Emma Watson, Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian West utilize this magical practice.
Does it hurt? How much does it cost?
The discomfort has been compared to tweezing, but threading removes hair quickly, so it's over sooner than plucking. The level of pain or discomfort varies depending on the skill of the technician. Although the process is uncomfortable, in my opinion, the pain is so worth it because of the crisp, clean results. I also love that threading is much more sanitary and natural than waxing. Leaving all the double-dipping waxing pot germs and harsh chemicals at home, threading is worth the discomfort! The pricing of threading also can vary depending on location of your spa or salon. The average pricing for eyebrow threading is about $10-$40.
